Of course walking is said to be one of the best exercises we can possibly do. It is great for our cardiovascular system especially a brisk walk.
Of course it is exactly what our feet are meant to do, however sometimes walking can be uncomfortable or cause us problems.
The hard surfaces we all walk on today often results in our foot collapsing slightly more than it should and our arch lowers more than it would on a softer surface which is what we evolved on. The harder surfaces have not been around for long in terms of human evolution and therefore can sometimes cause us functional issues.
Footwear is very important if regularly walking, horses for courses, i.e walking shoes / boots are so much better and appropriate for us.
Supportive trainers are also helpful as often the foot does need extra support.
You may benefit from a
video consultation appointment and specific advice from our Podiatrist to help with this and guide you towards what you may need if walking has become a problem for you.
