Diabetes

Diabetes
Diabetes is said to be an epidemic now in our population.

It is estimated that 415 million people are living with diabetes in the world, which is estimated to be 1 in 11 of the world's adult population. 46% of people with diabetes are undiagnosed. The figure is expected to rise to 642 million people living with diabetes worldwide by 2040

How does it affect feet?

The changes in blood sugar can have drastic affect on the feet in several ways

- The circulation to the feet and toes can be affected
- The sensation of the feet can be affected
- The feet become more susceptible to infection

Good diabetic control with regular foot check ups with a Podiatrist can help prevent any issues occurring.  We can help with a video consultation appointment with a podiatrist who can guide you through what to look for and  give you the best specific advice on how to help prevent any issues.

Tips for diabetics

- Wash your feet daily

- Dry well in between your toes

- Use a good foot cream like CCS cream around the feet especially the heel and any dry skin areas.  Do Not put the cream in between your toes (leave this area dry, so splits don't occur)

- If you have been told by a Podiatrist you can cut you own nails then cut straight across and file the edges.  DOn't cut down the sides.

- Any problems always consult a Podiatrist.  We can offer advice and help via a video consultation.
