Running

Running
Running is a great form of exercise and really helps our cardiovascular system, circulation, energy levels and musculosketal system, not to mention the mental health benefits this can also have for us.

Sometimes though as I am sure you are aware running can cause us issues.  As with walking our feet have not evolved to run on the hard surfaces we often find ourselves on and this can have an impact on our foot function.  Often feet 'over pronate' i.e the arch lowers too much and the foot tips inwards.  This can unbalance into our gait and cause a whole chain of events to give us pain all throughout our body and cause pain throughout but especially in our legs and feet.

When starting to run you should always gradually build up the time you do so and follow a program for building up the exercise as doing too much too soon can result in problems.

However, even for the seasoned runner problems can still occur, from heel and foot pain, to knee and hip pain, Illiotibial band problems and hamstring problems are common issues.

If you are having difficulty and would really like to get back to running or would love to get into running more, then a Video consultation appointment could help you.  Whatever the issue is the video consultation with our Podiatrist will go through your history and how the issue came about and various assessments can be done to help identify the issue and then give specific advice and stretching / exercises programs for this.
